CP24/CityTV -- Andy Walker discussed the future of the digital home with host David Onley. He talk about his visit to IBM's Pervasive Computing Lab in Austin, Texas. At the facility they have mocked up a living room kitchen and garage. All devices in the "house" can be controlled from the screen fridge, TV or a wireless webpad. Special stickers called RF tags can also be attached to any item to provide wireless information about them. The non-powered tags - which look like a circuit board on a sticker - can be used to ID any object and locate it in the house using wireless technology.

CP24/CityTV -- Andy Walker talked to Cynthia Mulligan about the satellite Internet quipment onboard the Radiance of the Seas ship owned by Royal Caribbean. The access is available in crew cabins (using IBM gear) and in passenger staterooms (you bring your own laptop). All 1050 passengers share a 128 kbps connection and pay a premium for the service. It's 50 cents US per minute.

The move shows the digital home is not ready for these kinds of network enabled gadgets. However the market will be ready when home internet gateways find their way into a large number of homes.
