Review
Pagis Pro 3.0 incorporates a slew of programs
that take your scanning capabilities to a whole new level.
This five-in-one package utilizes your computer's Internet connection,
virtually anything connected via parallel port (photocopier,
printer, etc.) and combines it with photo and scan editing software
and OCR applications.
Straight up, there is an intimidating wealth of options available
when opening Pagis Pro 3.0. The screen is full of things to
do, programs interlock on the page.
But it is not complicated. Think of Pagis as a Microsoft Outlook
style program for organizing documents and images.
There is a directory tree at left of screen, ideal for file
management, heaven for those of us with directories full of
documents and files. The program can be configured to display
all types of documents and images on screen, not by file name
but by thumbnail picture of the image -- a fantastic touch if
you are not organized about naming files
.
There's more. The program connects to the Web for ease when
posting pictures and files online and, when scanning documents,
connects your scanner to your fax program or printer for instant
transmission or printing. It navigates scanned images to the
correct area, eliminating steps from the process.
Want to edit your photograph? The Pagis Pro 3.0 Scanning Suite
comes complete with Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition.
Want to edit a scanned document? Again, the suite comes equipped
with OCR (optical character recognition) software TextBridge
Pro 9.0. Forms Fill-In, a program that allows users to scan
application-type documents so they can be filled out on-screen
and printed, is a nice addition. And Pagis Copier make color
copies.
All of these programs arrive with Pagis Pro 3.0 at a cost of
$99.95 US ($149.95 Canadian).
Pagis Pro 3.0 is quite taxing on your hardware, which is not
surprising, although mildly disappointing. System requirements
include 32 megabytes of RAM (random access memory) but the recommended
48 megabytes is probably more on par. On a Pentium II with 32
megabytes, the program does not run optimally and small businesses
with a serious need for this type of program might consider
a memory upgrade.
The suite is worth the memory upgrade, a testament to its value.
If you are in a business where scanning, report preparation
or creating customer literature has any worth, Pagis Pro 3.0
will help optimize operations.
Reviewer's rating: 4.75 / 5
Comments: System requirements to run this suite are big
league, but Pagis Pro 3.0 Scanning Suite is a fantastic set
of programs.
Minimum System Requirements: Pentium or better, minimum
32 MB RAM (48 MB recommended), 120 MB of hard disk space.
