Another USB peripheral device for your computer!
If only computers would ship with 47 USB ports...
If you are in the market for a PC camera and are the type to
actually use the extra features built into the high-end models,
then this camera package should definitely be on your short
list.
The Intel PC Camera Pro Pack is pretty slick and it comes with
every feature imaginable in a desktop camera, including a videophone
application. It's also fun, easy to use and reasonably priced.
The PC Camera Pro features include: a snapshot button, a privacy
shutter, a focus dial, a tilt swivel base, a tripod socket,
a video-in plug, an audio cable with a stereo-to-mono adapter
and a three-meter USB cable. The three-meter cable makes it
easier to use the snapshot feature.
The Create & Share Software Deluxe package that ships with
the camera includes Video Phone, Email Postcard, Gallery, Snapshot,
Scene Recorder, TWAIN Driver (TWAIN is a program that lets you
scan an image directly into an image-editing application), Movie
Builder and Auto Snapshot.
The Email Postcard application creates and emails an executable
file with the click of a button. The postcard arrives as an
email attachment with instructions. The postcard can include
any combination of text, audio, snapshots or movies taken with
the PC Camera Pro inset onto a postcard template.
A videophone application provides a slick personal touch to
home business communication.
It can allow you to do long-distance demonstrations for clients
or allow you to stay in visual touch with the office while on
the road. It's also ideal for any grandparent who already uses
e-mail to stay in touch with grandchildren. An extra CD copy
of the Intel Video Phone software is included, so you can snail
mail it to a client, grandkids or a friend. If they don't have
a PC camera on the other end, you won't be able to see them
but they will still be able to see you.
The number of frames transmitted per second will vary with the
speed of your connection. You wouldn't confuse the quality of
the camera's transmitted image with a television broadcast but
the image quality is amazingly good, given the $99 US price.
It might not be immediately clear to a telecommuter why a camera
would be a welcome or necessary addition to the PC workstation,
but it is. Once you get past the shock of having to wear pants
all day, you realize the value of face-to-face real-time conversations.
