 X10s
wireless video camera, called the XCam2, will appeal to
the snoop in you. This pint size video camera can be mounted
pretty much anywhere there is access to a power outlet to
surreptitiously see and hear whats going on.
The camera wirelessly transmits full-frame video and audio
to its base station which can be plugged into a television
or monitor that has a coaxial or RCA inputs. The kit has
a range of about 100 feet.
In my case, I mounted the camera at the front door to spy
on the comings and goings of couriers and visitors to my
office. The receiver was plugged into a television on the
third floor.
While it could have some sinister uses, it would also be
useful to watch the baby in her crib or the kids in the
rumpus room. Since it can be plugged into any video source,
you could also use it to record the video feed.
The device uses the 2.4 GigaHertz radio band, which is also
used by wireless phones, garage door openers and wireless
local area networks.
When used within range of a wireless computer network, it
caused a lot of interference, but thats not unusual
with a device of this type.
Nevertheless, the device is easy to install and provides
a surprisingly clear picture and usable audio.
