The RCA Mobile Video Player should be called the Parent Sanity Machine. It’s a 15 lb mobile video cassette player – about the size of a small canister vacuum cleaner -- that allows you to take your movie library wherever you go.

That means the kids can watch their favorite videos on those long car rides. The device features a 5.6 inch (diagonal) color LCD screen that pops up as an impromptu TV monitor. It has a couple of built in speakers, but for a silent ride it has two headphone jacks.

In the box is a car adapter, but it can also get power off an outlet.
The gadget is engineered to withstand bumps and shakes you’d normally encounter while driving. It can also connect to a DVD player or video game console to act as a portable monitor, perhaps for the cottage.

Movie buffs, movie makers or Mom and Dads will love this device. The only thing missing is a battery pack so that you can take this gadget into the woods. You know, for those instructive bear avoidance videos.

Price: $699.99 Canadian, $399 US
