Consider
the Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 315. It's not sexy. It's
not flush with features.
Frankly, it's purely utilitarian.
That's what's charming about the gadget, because it works
well and it's affordable.
The gadget is a no frills digital camera. It offers 2.1
megapixels of resolution. So a quality 8x10 inch image can
be produced from high resolution images captured with the
device.
Like most digital cameras, the PhotoSmart 315 will display
the snapped picture on a little LCD screen on the back of
it as soon as it is taken. You can also manage the pictures
in memory on the screen.
The camera has a fixed lens with a 2.5x optical zoom, meaning
that while the physical lens won't magnify your image for
a closer shot, the digital processor inside the camera will.
This is not that intuitive to use. You have to search the
on-screen menus to activate it.
There's a built in flash on the device which can be set
to fire automatically if needed. There's also an anti-red
eye mode.
The HP PhotoSmart 315 is a good entry level device for photographers
that want a camera that works well and is relatively easy
to use, though it won't wow any one who is expecting a sophisticated
device.
