Husbands:
never have to ask for directions again.
The DeLorme Earthmate GPS Receiver is a little yellow receiver about
the size of two bars of soap and has a connector for a laptop and an
adapter for a personal digital assistant (PDA) such as the Palm III,
Palm V or Microsoft Pocket PC device.
It takes signals from three Global Positioning System satellites and
shows your real-time position on a map on these devices. This allows
you to have the large color screen and computing power of a laptop for
cross-country trips and palm-sized mobility for when you are on a downtown
street corner.
The included software allows you to search an address by street name
or zip code or postal code on your notebook and then will tell you how
to get there with a line on a map, directions and even audio directions,
just like your loving wife. The Earthmate GPS Receiver will also use
topographic maps for back-country adventures. For golfers, there is
even a Golf Digest map that provides information about courses across
the U.S., but not Canada.
On a PDA, the Earthmate GPS Receiver works by showing you your position,
directions, heading, speed, elevation and estimated time of arrival.
A small icon indicates your current position on a map. Make sure you
use the AAA Map'n'Go software with this product in Canada, it has more
Canadian detail than Street Atlas USA.
Price: $180 US, $270 Canadian
