Answer: Here's the free easy way with software. Here is the step by step manual process for back-up of your email and settings. Here's how:

  1. Click Start menu, click on My Computer.
  2. On the Toolbar click Tools then Folder Options then on the View tab.
  3. In the Advanced Settings section, select Show Hidden Files and Folders, click Apply and OK.
  4. Starting from My Computer, double-click Local Disk, then click Documents & Settings.
  5. Select your User (ie. All Users), next double-click Application Data.
  6. Find and select Thunderbird.
  7. Right-click, select Copy.
  8. Right-click in your back-up folder, and select Paste.
