This is important, because in bright sunlight or a dark room, it is difficult to rely on only one of these. If you plan of taking lots of family portraits with a tripod, a swivel screen is great to have. You can turn it towards the group being photographed so they can see the image before the shutter fires. If the digi-cam is for someone with weak eyes, you may want to think about the size of the screen. A bigger screen on the back of the camera may be a welcome feature for a person who needs glasses to see small objects. Often, a screen only fractionally larger can make a huge difference.
