Screen - View a Preview

Most cameras now come with both a viewfinder and an LCD (liquid crystal diode) screen. This is important, because in bright sunlight or a dark room, it is difficult to rely on only one of these.

If you plan of taking lots of family portraits with a tripod, a swivel screen is great to have. You can turn it towards the group being photographed so they can see the image before the shutter fires.

They can also look at their image and adjust their position without being prompted by the photographer. Finally, arms-length self portraits can be taken with the Eiffel Tower or other monument in the background without having to ask a stranger to take your picture for you. This comes in handy if there is no one around to ask.

If the digi-cam is for someone with weak eyes, you may want to think about the size of the screen. A bigger screen on the back of the camera may be a welcome feature for a person who needs glasses to see small objects. Often, a screen only fractionally larger can make a huge difference.
